Ah, well, Christmas and winter are here. Of course, I thought winter came in November and Christmas in August! Well, not quite! But I have been making Santas and presents since then. Now my baking is all over and my orders finished, mailed and received, and I can only think of the New Year ahead. My personal point of view is: it will be rather sucky.
So get real creative! Money is tight, so products and gifts should be smaller and cheaper. That’s hard to do with everything going up. But it can be done.
We are fortunate to create off the land. We are covered with a landscape and seascape of riches. We can make all sorts of crafts and miniature paintings. Trade items each other needs to create projects. I need plants and trees as the storms made a mess of our yard. No more “forever yard sale”, as my portable garage is destroyed and so was the merchandise. Shops are o.k. tho’, and they are well stocked. So get creative and put on winter wear and clean up the mess! I’m looking forward to many dump runs. That’s not creative but I can think of ideas that will live thru storms better and work a little harder to use tougher plants. Think smaller, I guess. Lost my beautiful magnolia tree even though it was staked. It broke my heart; I cried; I loved my little tree.
But the New Year is coming and spring makes you well again. In the meantime, enjoy the Christmas season of good food, goodies and maybe a gift or two. Blessed Be to All and I still say “ Merry Christmas!” Judy
Welcome! Feel free to browse about the photos and posting that describe my watercolors, ceramics and other forms of art. The blogging originates from the Long Beach Peninsula in Wasington state on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, a classic artists' mecca/colony with a myriad of summer festivals, a great place to age gracefully. CROA-GRAM newsletter for January 2008
FUNNY NEW YEAR 2008
2007 has been eventful in terms of raising money and advertising on the internet. You are all aware of our photo page www.astoriaarts.com/ and now a blog is waiting for input at www.croartists.blogspot.com/
The chairperson has acquired an elegant vehicle with which to transport our show installations whenever the opportunity arises this year, 2008. Unfortunately we are unable to plan our events due to the remodeling of the Ilwaco Community Center. But we are able to travel to Oregon to participate in the art scene in Astoria, Seaside, Gearheart and Cannon Beach when advantageous.
Any inquiries or suggestions may be made to ilwacocroa@yahoo.com .
Bizarre winter weather and the multitude of craft shows here on the Peninsula puts CROA activity off until February.
So, please, Everyone, enjoy the Holiday Season and read the CROA-Gram for developments.
Your chairperson,
Barbara M. Martin

CROA Art Photos
Well, Shiver me timbers! We may add a photo or two to our blog page!
Before you venture out on the Grave Yard of the Pacific at the mouth of the Columbia River,( "Roll On"), in a Tall Ship from Baker Bay at the North Jetty, cast your eyes upon a vision or two.

CROA on the Pacific
The Columbia River Organization of Artists is moving into it's fourth year. We are a small club and meet in the Ilwaco Community Center in SW WA. However, the community center lucked into a grant to remodel during 2008. So, we are floating somewhat among members homes.
During this time we will remain active through the Astoria Visual Arts Center (AVA) across the Columbia River in Oregon. We hope to have an "All Things Paper" show at the AVA in February.
When we are active, we have fund-raising art sales and shows that have been progressively well attended. Our newsletter, the CROA-GRAM, keeps our membership in touch. We are currently distributing a 2008 calendar that features art work appearing on the AVA web page.
Our purpose is to encourage and support artists and hobbyists on the south end of the peninsula. We are, of course, non-profit. I wish I could upload photos to acquaint you with us!
Among our members we have oil painters, watercolorists, ceramic artists, jewelry crafters, card collage designers, pen & ink experts and a llama wool spinner who knits fine lacy scarves.
Here on the Long Beach Peninsula we are blessed with an incredible natural environment of expansive dunes, pristine beaches, romantic light houses (2) and tiers of surf that defy taming.
It is a biome that is truly relaxing. BM

Happy (?) Holidays
Here it comes, here comes the night, oh-yeah. sung to. the Holidays suddenly take on a perspective that deepens with every death in an oil-religious-hemispheric conflict. Bring the soldiers home. Poor souls who find no rest once they return! How long before the spill in San Fancisco Bay seeps up to the Long Beach coast at the Columbia river? And what about the Dead Sea. How dead is this site? Post us.
